Save Before the Decision You Want to Revisit

To save your Geoplanetical game, open the pause menu, choose Save, and create a named save. Keeping a separate save before a major decision gives you a clear point to return to. You can also overwrite an existing save, but the game asks you to confirm that choice.

The official gameplay FAQ documents manual saving, loading, and autosave settings. These are separate controls, so you do not have to rely on an automatic checkpoint.

Create and Load a Manual Save

  1. Open the pause menu. Escape also pauses the simulation.
  2. Choose Save and create a named save.
  3. Keep that save separate if you want to preserve this stage of the campaign. Select an existing save only when you intend to replace it, then confirm the overwrite.
  4. To go back, use Load and choose the saved campaign.

A name that describes the decision, such as a budget reform or an upcoming election, can make your own save list easier to navigate. That is an organization tip, not a special game feature or required naming format.

Set an Autosave Schedule

Open Settings to choose an autosave interval of 1, 3, 6, or 12 in-game months, or disable autosaving. The available retention settings keep 3, 5, or 10 autosaves.

Choose an interval and retention count that suit how often you want automatic checkpoints. The interval uses campaign months, not a fixed number of real-world minutes. Manual saves remain available independently of these settings.

Keep the Checkpoint That Matters

An autosave schedule is useful for routine progress, while a separately named manual save gives you a checkpoint you deliberately chose. Before replacing a manual save, consider whether you still want access to its earlier situation.

Saving is not the same action as changing your controlled country or political party. The latter continues the existing world from its current date; Load returns you to a saved campaign instead.
