Open the borrowing controls

Need cash for a government decision? In Geoplanetical, borrowing is handled in Budget → Summary, under Borrow money. Read the offer before committing, because the cash received also creates debt and an ongoing interest cost.

Start by checking whether your country can access the markets. The panel shows the available maximum and the quoted rate. A large planned project does not by itself make a loan available.

Review the amount and its consequences

Set Amount to borrow, then compare the preview before selecting the Borrow button for that amount:

  • The cash balance after borrowing.
  • Debt after, showing the resulting public debt.
  • Additional annual interest, showing the extra yearly cost.

The official guide calls the cash preview Treasury after. Version 1.0.2, announced on October 29, renames Treasury to State cash, so newer labels may differ from that older wording. It is still important to distinguish money available to spend from the country's total debt.

Once you have reviewed the offer, select Borrow and read the result beneath the controls. Check the cash and public-debt figures before making the next decision.

A loan does not apply a budget

Borrowing and budget reform are separate actions. Editing taxes or spending creates a proposal that must be applied; taking out a loan does not press Apply for that proposal.

Likewise, loan proceeds are not recurring tax revenue. They can fund a payment, while the loan adds interest to the country's financial commitments. Compare that commitment with the budget you intend to run instead of treating a higher cash balance as a solved deficit.

When borrowing is blocked or unclear

Use the market status, maximum amount and quoted terms shown in the current panel. Do not assume another country's rate or a historical player example applies to your campaign.

The October 29 version 1.0.2 notes report a fix for a freeze when confirming a large sovereign loan. That is a version-specific bug fix, not a promise that every borrowing issue has the same cause. If the controls still fail, record the version, amount and exact behavior rather than repeatedly confirming an uncertain transaction.

For the underlying menu sequence, see the developer's borrowing and sovereign-debt instructions.

FAQ

Where do I borrow money?

Open Budget → Summary and find Borrow money.

Is Borrow part of applying taxes?

No. Borrowing is a separate action from adopting a tax or spending proposal.

Can I repay the loan from cash later?

The same summary provides a repayment preview and Repay debt. The game calculates available repayment while preserving a cash buffer.
